The next generation of performers is ready to take centre stage as the Oshawa Little Theatre Youth Group presents Disney’s Newsies, running May 15–24. With a rich history spanning decades, the OLT Youth Group gives young performers the opportunity to learn, grow, and shine on stage. Many participants go on to pursue theatre, music, and the arts at higher levels, while others carry the confidence and teamwork they gain into other areas of their lives. The program has become known for its strong sense of community, mentorship, and dedication to nurturing young talent in Durham Region.

Inspired by the spirit of the show, the performers are participating in the #SeizeTheDay challenge, a community initiative that encourages acts of service and outreach. In the weeks leading up to the production, youth members have been making a difference throughout the community — singing the national anthem at Ontario Tech University games, representing OLT at a Firewolves lacrosse game, volunteering at the local food bank, and bringing music and joy to retirement homes through community cabaret performances.
“Newsies is a story about young people finding their voice and standing up for what’s right,” says the program’s chair. “We wanted our participants to live that message beyond the stage by giving back to the community.”

Audiences can expect a high-energy production filled with dynamic choreography, powerful vocals, and the unmistakable passion of young performers working together to tell an inspiring story.
Tickets and show information for Newsies are available at www.oshawalittletheatre.com and through the theatre’s box office.
